Summer Accessories

The perfect summer accessories look great on the beach or at home, whenever there is the chance to catch those rays.

SUNGLASSES

Sunglasses are essential to protect the eyes from UV rays while on the beach or relaxing in the garden. They can be chic, classic, eye-catching, 100% UV protection, stylish, glam, sophisticated and luxurious, something to suit all styles and tastes.

BAGS

A beach bag needs to hold all essentials such as; flip-flops, towels, water bottles and sun cream. It has to look good as well as provide for a day at the beach. Being super spacious, having plenty of pockets and an inner compartment is a bonus. It has to be chic, trendy, sophisticated and have the perfect colourful summer look.

Hats

A sun hat has to provide all the shade needed to protect from the UV rays of the sun. It can be sophisticated, chic or sporty.

BEACHWEAR

Beachwear needs to be colourful, vibrant, fun and fashionable, to perfectly match each sunny day.

What’s New This New Year, 2018?

As I move out of 2017 and into the new year 2018, I think about how much I have grown over the past year. My view of life has changed greatly.

I find when I come across any challenges I cope with them better. I do not spend a lot of time feeling upset if something goes wrong. I pick myself up and carry on with what I have to do. This way I will be more productive.

My view of life is altogether more positive. It is more difficult for me to have negative thoughts. I automatically look at every new situation in a positive way. My glass is half full rather than half empty.

I look for the best in people. I focus on their good qualities and not their bad. Each person has good and bad qualities and their bad qualities can be improved. People take this as a great compliment when we are able to overlook their weaknesses.

I am also more drawn to positive media rather than negative. The media is constantly filling our minds with negativity so I stay away from it. There are many good things that happen in the world and we don’t often hear about these.

I am more confident than I used to be. I can act without worrying what people think of me and I feel more in control of each situation.

I have learned to be in control of my own happiness and not to rely on others for it. It is up to me to decide to be happy.

What I have noticed the most is the behaviour of others. How people worry unnecessarily and how they could deal with situations in a more constructive way.

Learning personal development where we learn how to grow as a person is essential for a better quality of life. It improves relationships with others and changes our views on how to deal with situations each day. How good our lives will be depends on how we look at and manage situations. I am looking forward to the year ahead and what new challenges it will bring.

My Diary: Visit To Morocco

morocco15Photo by Louise MacPherson, February 2017

My first visit to Morocco was a fantastic experience. It is a country with beautiful scenery, friendly people, wonderful culture and cuisine.

The flights were from Aberdeen to London, then London to Marrakesh. Then to drive over the Atlas mountains to Errachidia. The flights went pretty smoothly, just a short delay going from London to Marrakesh. The weather was good in the UK and Morocco. This visit was in February so it was not very hot. Probably the best time to go for a fist visit. However, it was sunny and warm the first few days we were in Morocco, more like a summer day in the UK.

My husband and I spent our first night in Marrakesh. The houses have a beautiful living space with a terrace where you can go out to sit or hang up washing.

Marrakesh is full of restaurants and riads. The market in the Old Medina sells a wide variety of pottery, clothing, silver, etc. Just try to avoid being run over as there are bicycles and scooters everywhere.

Driving in Morocco is crazy. Drivers do not stick to their designated lane but drive down the middle and only move when they see a car coming in the opposite direction. When overtaking you have to flash your lights or sound your horn so the driver in front knows you are passing.

The mountains are very rocky. When driving over the mountains there are many places for tourists to stop. There are restaurants and an opportunity to purchase argan oil products as well as be shown how the argan oil is extracted. There was a lot of work going on in the mountain road as it was being widened so the road will be improved for tourism.

Berbers are the indigenous people of North Africa. They mainly inhabit the mountain areas of Morocco. The picture below shows how a small village has been built into the side of a mountain.

Below are some scenic views of the desert areas.

The houses are very basic, but they have everything you need. They are very cool inside in the summer and there is a chiminea inside to keep warm in the winter. Some have beds and others just have a mattress on the floor. Some houses have a toilet that is just a hole in the floor as in the picture below.

Some of the houses have a separate wash house with a gas boiler to heat the water. You get a very hot shower.

The berber women make their own bread. It is often baked in a clay oven outside, an example in the picture below.

All the food is prepared from scratch using different spices. Below is stuffed rabbit served with chips and salad.

Water is collected from a spring. There is running water in most houses, but it is not clean enough to drink. The water from the spring is fresh water which has come from the mountains.

The traditional moroccan mint tea is very strong and very sweet. It is a combination of green tea and mint leaves. The lump of sugar that is put in the tea is huge.

On the way back to Marrakesh, the weather was colder and there was snow on the mountains. The scenery was really breathtaking.

By the time we got back to Marrakesh there was a thunder storm and it was raining so our flight was delayed by a few hours. When we got back to London, the weather was still wet and windy and we could feel the aeroplane being blown on the runway.  I am not the best of flyers so it was pretty scary.

I enjoyed my visit and I hope to return to Morocco next year.

My Diary: Birmingham Showcase

My first visit to Birmingham in the UK was fantastic. Birmingham is a beautiful city full of shops, restaurants and canals. I had never been to Birmingham before and I did not realise there were so many canals going through the city. There are little bridges so people on foot can cross the canals. There are boats on the canal and these boats can be used for holidays, parties and some of them are restaurants. When holidaying in a boat on the canal, you can park your boat outside a restaurant to go in and have a meal.

I decided to splash out and travel first class to get to Birmingham as I had got a ticket that was quite cheap. I got lots of food such as a vegetable wrap, a banana, a panettoncino, all the tea I could drink and biscuits. It was also so quiet so I got peace to read my books.

My visit to Birmingham was for the New Year Showcase. The Showcase was amazing with people in the network marketing business telling their story of how they became successful. This was very inspiring. Some people had overcome great struggles to achieve success and improve their lives. Training was also available on how to work a network marketing business. This was of great help to me.

I went out for a meal after the Showcase with my friends in the business. It was great to catch up with everyone.

My Diary: Holiday Plans to Morocco

via Daily Prompt: Scent

My holiday is planned for two weeks time. I am going to Morocco. I fly to London from Aberdeen, then London to Marrakesh. I get very nervous before getting on a plane. I do not enjoy it, but it will be worth it for the few hours so I can go to Morocco. Morocco is not that far from the UK.

It is my first holiday in I don’t know how long. I am going with my husband and the plan is to rent a car, see as much as we can as we are only going for eight days. I don’t think it will be long enough, but I will be visiting again. My husband is Moroccan so he knows all the good places to see. I am looking forward to spending time with in-laws.

Morocco is a mixture of Arabs, Berbers and Europeans. The country has desert, riads (Moroccan traditional houses), restaurants, hospitable people and great food, I have been told. I can smell the scent of spices in the air already. I am looking forward to hearing the call to prayer.

My Diary: Between The Festivities

More festivities start tomorrow evening with Hogmanay or better known as New Years Eve. The shops will be closed again for another few days. People will be partying again and no doubt I will hear the bangs of fireworks from my neighbours as midnight approaches. This time of year goes so fast. Everyone spends so much time preparing for Christmas and it is over in no time. The UK is lovely at Christmas, especially in the shops. They are all lit up with lights and decorations. After New Year, when the decorations come down, everything returns to normal. I think that after New Year most people are pleased to get back to their every day routine.

I have had a lovely few days between Christmas and New Year. The roads are so quiet. The schools are off and most people are not back to work until after New Year. It will be a shock to the system for me when the roads get busy again. I am not usually on the roads at rush hour. I teach during after school hours and I work on my business at home. I do take my husband to work in the mornings after 7 pm. That is the time when I notice the traffic.

I did a bit of shopping, replacing the pan I ruined. I was cooking sticky rice, the rice stuck to the bottom of the pan and I could not remove it. The pan was binned, but I did find a new pan which was better quality. Hopefully, I will not ruin this one. I am great at baking but not so good at cooking. There are some things I can cook well, but I will just have to make an effort to learn new recipes.

I am going to the Showcase with my business the weekend after New Year. That will be something to look forward to. I am taking the train from Aberdeen to Birmingham. A long journey. I will stay over in Birmingham for two nights. We are having a presentation through the day and going out for a meal at night. I will meet up with so many people. Some I know and some new faces. I think I really need a break. Staying in a hotel is fantastic.

The sky is beautiful tonight, full of red and orange. Maybe it will be a nice day tomorrow? ‘Red sky at night, shepherds delight’. It is not that cold outside. The winters are certainly getting warmer. Still cold enough for the heating to be on inside though.

I will have to make my plans for this year. What are my goals? What I plan to do? Will I arrange a holiday? I am hoping to take a holiday to Morocco this year to see my in-laws. Some sun will do me good. Maybe during the summer time. I want to continue teaching music and build my customer base in my business. I am not good at making plans at all, but if I don’t make them I will not achieve anything.

Have A Great Holiday Everyone!

Festive

I hope everyone is enjoying their holidays. The end of another year. How time flies.

My Christmas is quiet this year. My brother and sister are away in Edinburgh celebrating with their families. I am here with my husband and we went to my parents to have a meal with them. My husband and I do not celebrate Christmas as such, but I have lived here all my life and it is really nice to celebrate with family and friends. It is a lovely time of year for everyone to get together.

In Aberdeen, Christmas Day is so quiet, apart from the occasional horn sounding from cars outside picking people up to take to parties. There are no buses, everything is closed, it is like a ghost town.

However, I woke up this boxing day to be pleasantly surprised to find a blanket of snow outside, not sure if it will last. Snow is not a regular occurrence as it was in the past.

I am going to take a wander into the shops and have a browse around the sales. After the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, everyone heads to the shops again to pick up a bargain.

The next stage of the festive season is to look forward to the New Year.
