Thinking For Ourselves

In my opinion, thinking for ourselves is a valuable asset to carry us through life.

Not following the crowd gives us the chance to grow in our own way. We are more likely to become the people we really want to be or are destined to be. Following the crowd is stressful and often leads to disappointment as we are not really living our lives for ourselves but for other people.

We can never be sure that we are being provided with the correct information. Stories can turn into Chinese whispers and the information we are given gets distorted through misunderstanding or being altered whether intentional or not.

A very good reason for learning to think for ourselves is we are less likely to be vulnerable to manipulation. Our thoughts, opinions and feelings towards a particular subject cannot be influenced or exploited which can affect enjoyment, choices and opportunities in our life. If we want to learn, we need to learn from valuable and trusted sources.

We have to ask ourselves questions. Think why we want to do something or why we have a particular opinion. Weighing up the benefits and pitfalls so we can come to our own conclusions will give us the most accurate result. We have a habit of being buyest to our own opinions because it benefits us or makes us feel safe, but it does not necessarily mean that it is the best choice, so we need to be aware of this. We can often feel uneasy disagreeing with others and fear that we will be rejected, but if people do not support our opinions there is nothing we can do, at least we have been true to ourselves. However, they might also feel a great amount of respect us for giving our own opinion.

Expressing our own opinions does not need to be done in a hostile way. We only need to state our opinion and we can give an explanation why. If we use this method when deciding on anything in our life, we will find that we have made the right choice with the right evidence. We will not always be right, but we will have made a correct evaluation before taking the next step.

We must always be ourselves. It takes a great amount of bravery to do this, we live in a very judgmental world. We need to find our focus, know our boundaries and be the people we want to be. This way we will feel altogether happier and more satisfied throughout life.
